Ask HN: What's Next for TUIs?
1 point by aliveupstairs 5 years ago | 0 commentsI started using terminal/text-based user interfaces almost a year now and have gotten so much out of them: they're fun to use, performant, and extensible through config files and exposure of key variables.
In the GUI world, you find anticipation for new technologies both from the community (JS frameworks that make web apps a breeze to create through reactivity and page transitions) and browser vendors (subgrid and CSS Houdini), and I imagine the same is true for native GUIs.
What is new in the TUI world in terms of community frameworks, libraries, shells, and terminal emulators? and does that go against the performant and stable aspect of the command line? is there such thing as a modern TUI? I can hardly get images and font ligatures on my terminal emulator.
