The US needs to build up its relationships with the EU, Aus, India, Mexico, Canada and SE Asia get serious about both Russia and China. Token gestures like expelling diplomats isn't going to do anything.

I can't imagine how we'd go about doing that. We just spent four years antagonizing all of the people we should be building relationships with, and there's no mechanism to prevent us from doing so again four years from now. Any relationship is on a shaky foundation, and I don't know how to fix that.

        I agree.

I think the EU would be open to cooperate on Russia. And India, SE Asia and Aus would like to cooperate on China. I guess Biden has to start and build from there.

Whether the US can completely escape trunpism is hard question. Even now its strong and I'd think twice before pissing off China just to get left to twist in the wind by trump 2.0...
