    > They broke for commercial. I couldn’t believe it. A hair-loss commercial comes on. I remember thinking, in the middle of all this, I’m watching this commercial for hair loss.

    > “I’m safe. I can’t tell you where I am.” And she said, “Oh, I thought you were in Barksdale? That’s what I saw on TV.”

    Absolutely amazing.

        > We didn’t have satellite TV on the plane > watching the local feed of a Florida station going in and out. > Master Sgt. Dana Lark: There were two TV tuners, worldwide television tuners [at my workspace on Air Force One]. They were like old-school rabbit ears—UHF and VHF frequencies. We didn’t have the ability to tune into CNN, Fox, or anything else

        This is one interesting bit.

Did the tech not exist? Or was it because it was pre-web (On the log scale 2001 was close to zero) and time moved slower so wasn't thought it had strategic importance.

        > I was really worried that someone was going to fly a plane into that school.

They seem not to have had a retrospective, or are still political enough to not admit mistakes.

This was a serious issue. SAMs in Washington was not, literally landing Airforce one where it needs to go is it's job. How did that happen?
