Why is Mark Zuckerberg building the Metaverse?

I'm a bit skeptical of the so-called meta-verse. Even if you can talk to avatars is that really much different from a zoom-meeting? In fact it would seem that in zoom-meeting we are more present with others because we can see their faces exactly, how they react to what we are saying. While avatars may be able to mimic facial expressions I don't see how they could do that better than real actual facial expressions.

And how would the communication actually happen? By texting? Same thing, hearing people's real voice gives us important clues about their emotional state as well what are they actually trying to say, is it sarcasm perhaps?

So it would seem that communicating by transmitting audio is better than texting. But if so then surely visual communication by real video is also better than some kind of computer generated animated image.

Avatars have their place when you want to protect your identity such as in a multi-player game. Avatars are good for games. To get real work done I don't see many if any benefits to them.

So the article poses a good question, Zuckerberg why are you building meta-verse?

      >Their goal is to get people to spend as much time as possible in the metaverse

There’s your answer. How does Facebook make most of its money? Information about people and ads.

As Facebook evolved they added games and marketplace and more - they want you to spend most of your time online on Facebook. His goal for the zuckerverse is no different.

His talking points about connecting people are just marketing speak. He wants to connect people so that they spend more time on his platforms and meta makes more money. It’s that simple.

"zuckerverse" is a great name for it :-)

Surely he just wants to make more money. But how does he think zuckerverse will help him do that? Well maybe as a novelty. I can see a lot people getting into it once it works well enough.

But you are right we should see right through Zuckerberg's verses.
