M-Pesa was firmly established back when I met a Kenyan friend in 2013, who lives in Nairobi. It was also the first time I encountered someone who used their phone as their sole computer, for graphic design, word processing, video, etc. etc.

This friend didn't have a job, didn't have many possessions at all. But accomplished some amazing things with a mid-level phone and slow internet (not to mention frequent power outages).
