Show HN: 4-7-8 Breathing – BreathWithMe.io

- troydavis 2 years agoNice to see more awareness of breathing exercises. I’ve been using “The Breathing App”: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/the-breathing-app/id1285982210 (iOS, free, no gimmicks).
3 minutes of 5:7 is enough to see a measurable change in HRV. 5 minutes is downright relaxing.
- kseistrup 2 years agoFor the uninitiated, could you explain what “5:7” is? Five seconds of inhale, followed by seven seconds of exhale (and no pauses inbetween), or what?
- lukko 2 years agooh interesting – how did you measure the HRV? I have been thinking of adding Apple Watch support to this: https://apps.apple.com/app/lungy-breathing-exercises/id15452...
- troydavis 2 years agoI use an Apple Watch. I start the “Mindfulness” Watch app (and then ignore it in favor of iOS Breathing) to force the Watch to measure HRV.
Of the apps I’ve tried, The iOS Breathing App’s audio and very limited visual is the easiest to get engrossed in. Google for “resonance breathing” for more about its breathing technique - though I didn’t know any of that when I first tried it.
- lukko 2 years agoOh great, I didn't realise HRV is also easily accessible via HealthKit:

I really like the audio on TBA. Would love to hear feedback on my app, if possible, especially if you're using another breathing app regularly. It is quite a different approach, partly because hopefully it will be used to quantify breathing function one day.
