    Is OpenAI's ChatGPT open source?

If not, the argument this person is making with this following statement:

"...would have discarded the whole software industry in 1972 as "just a wrapper on top of the C programming language".

is a complete strawman and a borderline non sequitur argument.

Unless we do see a viable open source ChatGPT competitor, all the moat goes to Microsoft / OpenAI, which is why everyone is rushing to get in on ChatGPT's API to depend their business on it.

So "just a wrapper on top of GPT3" is a completely valid argument.

The obvious difference between ChatGPT and C is reliability in two senses. First, ChatGPT has unknown costs and an unknown future. If it is discontinued or costs are 10x tomorrow, whence is your business? Second, the outputs themselves are not reliable. Hallucination, coherence, and accuracy are all concerns. Most businesses expect that their tools can be trusted.
