A lot of good things in life and probably civilisation itself, are based on some people NOT doing well.

America could never appear if not the slavery (even that the slavery never became dominant in the North, was a bug, not a feature: original plan was to enslave Native Americans - until they were found out to be lousy workers, but very good fighters). Europe could never become what it is, without serfs and then colonial slaves.

You can't have one without the other. For us to have nice things, most people must not have a nice life.

Post hoc ergo propter hoc is a fallacious argument, Dr. Pangloss.
