Paralysed man communicates first words in months using brain implant (2022)

I have some sort of gadget attached to my brain by some very clever people, who have obviously been educated in the right schools and been practicing their art for many years.
What is thought? The answer does not lie at the level where they take the view that its essence is being self transparent and knowing that it is thought. It is, rather, at the level of the fact that every human is born steeped in something we call thought.
How do I know that what I am thinking is actually being conveyed correctly via the gadget implanted in my brain to the external observers.
I may well be thinking that I would like a nice thick rib eye steak for dinner and the damned gadget says that I want a skinny beef burger for dinner.
If I am totally reliant on the gadget how do we or I know that it is correct?
I cannot wag my finger and say that the gadget is wrong.

Isn't possible to ask those external observers to repeat the message I sent to them?
If the message is correctly transmitted back to me, then I know it works.
