Crime is down, way down
7 points by davikr 3 months ago | 8 comments- pasttense01 3 months agoThe key point is that it is REPORTED crime which is down. I think that every year fewer and fewer people are reporting crime--because overwhelmingly it is futile to do so--so only report if it is required to file an insurance claim or it is a major injury.

- sottol 3 months agoUsually, it's the wealthy that tend to leave and depopulation tends to increase "blight" and crime.
But I had no idea the population declined so much, that puts other observations about SF into context.
- hello_computer 3 months agoThe very wealthy and the very poor two sides of the same coin. Where there is one, the other is sure to be found. My personal experience has been that the wealthy horde more property than they can lease or employ. Hobos find and fill these empty nooks and crevices like water.

- jmclnx 3 months agoWait to see what happens when the firings in mass begins as Trump cuts social protections. Plus inflation will soon start that will make the Covid Inflation Rates look like good times.
So I expect a delayed huge raise in Crime thanks to Trump.
But at least gas prices will probably fall once the firings kick in. That is the only thing MAGA seems to cares about.
- aurareturn 3 months agoFor those in SF, does it feel like crime is down?
- slater 3 months agoYes-ish. Seemingly less car break-ins, for sure.
